DRYER TROUBLE SHOOTING

Dryer problems always get worse. When you notice a dryer problem, fix it right away. Procrastination will only cause more damage and a much bigger bill. Most dryers tops will pop up. Sometimes a few screws have to be removed. Once the dryer top is up, only the removal of a few screws are needed to take the front panel off. Each make has something different to do for easy access. Your best bet is to call a dryer repair company. You can't do dryer repairs without special tools. The best time to buy dryer it is when you get the machine. OK, you probably have a two year warranty and don't care what happens for the next two years. Good, wait two years, then stop by your parts store and buy the manual. Dryer repair should not intimidate you. Just quit procrastinating and buy the manual and we will fix most of the problems together.
PROBLEM: The dryer is on the not drying well, how do I open this thing up and see what's wrong? It's very simple if you bought your service manual. If you didn't, try the instructions I just gave you
PROBLEM: The dryer is starting to squeak. A dryer that starts to squeal or squeak has to be serviced immediately. If you don't fix it immediately, the dryer problem will get worse rapidly. The squealing has probably been caused by an over heating motor, caused by lint build up. The permanently oiled dryer bearings have run dry and there are no oil caps. The common solution is to replace the dryer motor. This doesn't work every time, but I have saved thousands of dryer motors over the years by going to the store and getting a can of turbine oil and lubricating the shaft. If you want to try and save your electric motor, try this. Take the motor out of the dryer. Place it on its end. Drop 20 to 30 drops of turbine oil down the shaft. Again, I emphasize turbine oil. Other kinds of an oil may turn into the consistency of caramel and make the problem even worse. After the turbine oil has soaked down the shaft, turn the motor over and drop 20 to 30 more drops of turbine oil down the opposite shaft. Replace the motor, cross your fingers and see if the motor is back running in quiet condition. If it has, you have saved yourself the price of an electric motor. Keep oiling it annually. If the dryer motor still squeals, replace the motor.
PROBLEM: The dryer is working OK, but there is a rumbling noise. Good thing you decided to check this out. The most common reason for a rumbling noise, is that one or both of the dryer drum rollers have worn down and need to be replaced. Take the drum out of the dryer and inspect the rollers that support the revolving dryer drum. If either of them shows wear, replace both of them. The reason that you replace both is that if you just replace one roller, the newer roller will be slightly larger than the older roller and will throw the dryer out of kilter repeating the problem. When you do this, it is a good idea to carefully felt seals at the front and back of the dryer. While the drum was rotating out of kilter, it was wearing down the felt seals. When the felt seals are worn, air is not moving in the specified pattern and it takes longer to dry each load. More important, the gap which appears between the felt seal and the rotating drum may allow a small piece of fabric to fall through the edge of the tub into the burner chamber and start a fire.
