CLOTHES WASHERS

Successful operation of any automatic washers of the type is dependent largely upon the following factors: (1) An adequate supply of hot water (150° F.) is necessary. (2) The water heater must have sufficient storage capacity or hot water recovery to operate the washer through at least three complete cycles. Usually a fast recovery gas, oil, or coal fired heater having a 30 gal. storage capacity is adequate. If an electric or other slow-recovery heater is used, it must have a storage capacity of at least 60 gals. (An excessively low recovery or inadequate capacity may prevent continuous operation of the washer through a normal family washing.) (3) Hot and cold water lines must be equipped with individual shut-off faucets and should be located within 6' of the left rear bottom corner of the washer. (4) Waste water outlet facilities may be a sink, set tub, stand pipe, or floor drain properly vented and trapped to prevent disagreeable odors from entering the washer. If you use an extension cord to supply electricity to the washer, be sure the wire is of the gauge specified by the manufacturer.
Wiring should be checked to see that the addition of the washer will not overload the circuit. Any alterations to the plumbing or electric connections should be made prior to installation of the washer and in accordance with existing local plumbing and electricity codes.
INSTALLATION
It is riot necessary to bolt the washer to the floor, and it may be installed on any type of floor which is reasonably solid and level. Choose a location that has separate hot and cold water faucets within 6' of the left side of the washer where the inlet hoses are connected.
When a washer must be installed on a weak or "springy" floor, reinforcement may be necessary to prevent excessive vibration. Reinforcement can be secured by attaching a 3/4" plywood panel to the existing floor with screws. The panel must be of sufficient length to rest on the floor over at least one joist on either side of the washer, and it must be attached firmly by screws, preferably to the floor joists. In cases of extremely weak floors, install a steady brace under the floor where the washer is to be placed by using post jacks (or wood supports on a firm footing.
